So I find it to be a law that when I want to do what is good, evil lies close at hand. For I delight in the law of God in my inmost self, but I see in my members another law at war with the law of my mind, making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members. Wretch that I am who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God (it is done) through Jesus Christ our Lord!

(Romans 7:21-25)

Reflections

Fire catches a shadow

Between the cross

And a figure held captive by sin.

Fear, shame and sorrow

Fuel the reign of chaos and confusion.

Look at the cross.

Rooted in the earth

Reaching beyond the sky.

This wood fails to burn.

Thanks be to God!

Questions for Intention: (How to Pray with Art)

Imagine Jesus' reaction to the violence of the world.Read the newspaper or watch TV news and talk to God about your reactions.

If you had one day left to live, what would be the biggest regrets and happiness in your life?

Imagine Christ on the cross and ask: “What have I done for you?

What am I doing for you?

What ought I to be doing for you?
