Garden Blooms

Garden Blooms by Lewis Williams, OFS

Artwork Narrative:

Each year, the sunflowers in our backyard are very symbolic of our lives, as they are visible markers of the changing of the seasons. We plant some seeds in the spring, but the majority are wild seeds spread by birds. They grow tall and strong, and when the yellow heads burst open, the intense color is a welcome addition in our yard that screams “summer has arrived.”

Then, as fall progresses, the blooms turn brown, crusty and full of seeds. We know the cycle will soon turn to winter, and these seeds, full of oil, will delight the birds for many months.

In this painting, I was full of the joy of midsummer light and hope, even in the middle of a Pandemic.
