Homestead Memories/Montana

Homestead Memories/Montana by Lewis Williams, OFS

Artwork Narrative:

West of the James Kipp campground on the Missouri River in Montana, nothing much has changed in the 200+ years since Lewis and Clark first explored this area in 1803.

The night before our hike, the downpour was unbelievable, as was the mud. It took me back in time, thinking of what the actual daily struggles were for the corps of Discovery.

This image is of a homestead on the flats along the river, still loaded with all their personal effects. What hopes and dreams were left at this gate?
