Isabel Flores de Oliva was born in Lima, Peru to a Puerto Rican father and a native Peruvian mother. Everyone called her Rose because she was so beautiful. She was given many mystical gifts by Jesus. Though the severe penances she gave Him in return would be excessive by today's standards, during Rose's time and in her culture, they were heroic and holy expressions of the overwhelming love she felt for God. She was also very devoted to His blessed mother, to whom she poured out her heart and entrusted decisions.
