St. Francis of Sales, born in Châteaux de Sales, Savoy, France, on August 21, 1567, worked in law before becoming a Roman Catholic priest. He was a missionary in the Chablis region and co-founded the Visitation of Holy Mary order with Jane Frances de Chantal. He also wrote Introduction to a Devout Life and in the 20th century was declared a saint for writers. Francis died on December 28, 1622.
